The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises

This entry is well overdue and I apologize to anyone who actually follows this thing. I've seen this movie twice now. And each viewing was amazing. If I was to pick one word to describe this movie, it would be......EPIC! Or Legendary or unbelievable, or the best superhero movie in the history? Yes to all! This movie was awesome in every sense of the word. This will probably enter my Top 5 of all time.

So I was waiting for this movie to come out since 2008. The Dark Knight left such an impact on people that this movie was easily one of the most anticipated movies in the last 10 years. With the death of Heath Ledger, everyone was curious as to where Christopher Nolan was going to bring the story. And he didn't disappoint. He was able to bring the last installment in the series to an end but do it in classic Christopher Nolan fashion. He ended it but leaves everyone wanting more.

The story take place 8 years from the end of The Dark Knight. We see Bruce Wayne totally secluded in his rebuilt mansion. He is awakened after a cat burglar, played by Anne Hathaway. He starts to bring himself back to life only to find that his company is starting to go under and a threat has been introduced to the city of Gotham. The story itself is not complex, but has a lot of pieces to it so I won't go too much into detail because all of the pieces make up one hell of a film, and I don't want to give anything away.

The villain in the movie is Bane played by Tom Hardy and he is set to finish what Liam Neeson started in Batman Begins. This character is so awesome and Tom Hardy kills it! His presence on screen is so overpowering! The character is a trained fighter so he tests Batman more physically than ever before. Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle or "Catwoman" even though the name Catwoman never gets mentioned any time during the film. Now Anne Hathaway wasn't the first name that came in my mind for the role, and when I heard she got casted, I really wasn't super excited about it. But hr performance in this move was perfect. She was sexy, funny and a bad ass all at the same time. She was a surprising bonus. And it doesn't hurt that she is nice to look at. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays police officer John Blake. He shows that he is such a good actor and add that certain supporting feature that is needed for a movie of this magnitude. And Christian Bale and Gary Oldman reprise their roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Commissioner Gordon.

The Dark Knight Rises is the perfect ending to the Dark Knight Trilogy. Christopher Nolan writes this in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time and leaves you wanting more when it's done. Now the big question that will probably always be a debate, is that is this movie better than the Dark Knight? I don't have the answer to that question. I like the story better in the Dark Knight Rises but Heath Ledger's performance in the Dark Knight is so unbelievable, it makes this question practically impossible. Batman Begins is based around fear. The Dark Knight revolves around chaos and the Dark Knight Rises is all about pain. Each one was written so perfectly with unforgettable performances and non stop action that it doesn't matter which one is better. All that matters is that each movie is amazing and I'm sad to see the end, but I am more than satisfied because The Dark Knight Rises was the perfect ending to one of the greatest trilogies ever. Yes indeed.
