The Descendants
So I've been waiting to see this movie for a while. After the performance that Clooney gave in "Up In The Air", I couldn't wait to see this performance. So after watching it, I have to say, my overall rating is.....not bad but it was missing something. The Descendants stars George Clooney as a father of 2 who inherited a rich amount of land in Hawaii. Along with his many cousins that a own a part as well, he and he alone has to decide what to do with the land. Either way, they will become very very rich. While all this is going on, his wife of many years, is in a coma from a terrible boating accident. He then decides to go retrieve his teenage daughter from a boarding school to have her home while all this is going on. His oldest daughter is played by Shailene Woodley who I think gives a breakout performance and should have been nominated for best supporting actress. She was awesome and what I think the best part of the movie. Now for twist, he discovers through his daughter no less, that his wife was cheating on him. So what do you do in that situation. You find out your wife has been cheating on you when she's in a coma. You have 2 daughters who are super emotional and you have to decide the fate a piece of historic Hawaiian land. It's no wonder why this movie won Best Adapted Screenplay and was nominated for Best Picture. The Descendants is a great film. My only issue with it, is that it is super depressing and there are only a few moments of clarity. I guess that's what real life is, but I was hoping for a lighter undertone. But, The Descendants is still an amazing movie. It has a lot of emotion, some comedy and fantastic acting. Watching it is worth it, just know going in that your probably going to get a little sad. Good good stuff.....yes indeed.
