The Yes Indeed Papers Salute...

Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter is my September pick for the unappreciated actor or this case, actress. Actually, the first woman that has made this list. She had some small roles early on, she got noticed by everyone is Fight Club. Then when she met Tim Burton, she took off. A majority of her roles have been from Tim Burton movies but who cares! She's awesome. How she hasn't won an Oscar yet is beyond me. She kills it every time, and yet she sneaks under every one's radar. Here are some of her more memorable roles:

  • Fight Club

  • Planet of the Apes

  • Novocaine

  • Big Fish

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

  • Corpse Bride

  • Sweeney Todd

  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

  • Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows part 1 & 2

  • Terminator Salvation

  • The King's Speech

  • Alice in Wonderland

Helena Bonham Carter is a fantastic actress and can play so many different character's and roles. She deserves way more credit and I'm excited to see what she's gonna do in the future. So from all us here at The Yes Indeed Papers (and by all of us, I mean just me), Helena Bonham Carter....we salute you! Yes indeed.

The Help

Jess took me to go see this one. She read the book and then wanted to go see the movie. And I had no objection because that's my thing. And it actually looked like it could be good. After watching it, my feeling towards this flick is a B+ movie with a A+ cast and story.

Jess loved the book. She was crying and laughing while reading the book and really excited to see the movie. But even she agreed that it lacked a little bit. The story of The Help is a young woman named Skeeter played by Emma Stone, who just graduated from college and is aspiring to be a journalist. And she wants to write about what it's like from the point of view from the help, black maids from Jackson Mississippi in the 60's. From the start, the movie has potential to be Oscar worthy. There is so much emotion that was just waiting to be released that was never really tapped into. There were a few moments when that raw emotion came to play out, but not enough to make a powerful story turn into a powerful movie.

Now on the other hand, the cast was great! Emma Stone was great, the two woman who were the focus of Emma Stone's character's book were fantastic. Viola Davis played Aibileen Clark, who narrated the movie and Octavia Spencer played Minny Jackson and she had the breakout performance in the film. And Bryce Dallas Howard killed it as Hilly Holbrook. Just perfect for playing that villain role. She's gonna turn heads in future performances.

Overall, The Help is a good movie but they could have done so much more with it. I kept waiting for that one moment that just kinda takes your breath away, but it never happened. But still, the movie was entertaining. Yes indeed.

Dave Song of the Month...

Pig

Isn't it strange

How we move our lives for another day

Like skipping a beat

What if a great wave should

Wash us all away

Just thinking out loud

Don't mean to dwell on this dying thing

But looking at blood

It's alive right now

Deep and sweet within

Pouring through our veins

Intoxicate moving wine to tears

Drinking it deep

Then an evening spent dancing

It's you an me

This love will open our world

From the dark side we can see a glow of something bright

There's much more than we see here

Don't burn the day away

Is this not enough?

This blessed sip of life

Is it not enough?

Staring down at the ground

Oh then complain and pray

More from above

Greedy little pig

Stop just watch your world trickle away

Oh it's your problem now

It'll all be dead and gone in

A few short years

Just love will open our eyes

Just love will put the hope in our minds

Much more than we could ever know

Don't burn the day away

Come sister

My brother

Shake up your bones shake up your feet

I'm saying open up

And let the rain come pouring in

Wash out this tired notion

That the best is yet to come

But while your dancing on the ground

Don't think of when you're gone

Love! Love! What more is there?

We need the light of love in here

Don't beat your head

Dry your eyes

Let the love in here

There are bad times

But that's ok

Just look for love in it

Don't burn the day away

Look

Here are we

On this starry night starring into space

And I must say

I feel as small as dust

Lying down here

What point could there be troubling?

Head down wondering what will

Become of me

Why concern we cannot see

But no reason to abandon it

Time is short but that's all right

Maybe I'll go in the middle of the night

Take your hands from eyes, my love

Everhthing must end some time

Don't burn the day away

Come sister

My brother

Shake up your bones shake up your feet

I'm saying open up

And let the rain come flooding in

Wash out this tired notion

That the best is yet to come

But while you're dancing on the ground

Don't think of when your gone

Love! Love! What more is there?

We need the light of love in here

Don't beat your head

Dry your eyes

Let the love in there

There are bad times

But that's ok

Just look for love in it

The Lincoln Lawyer

So a friend at work recommended this one.I was told that it is amazing and I need to watch it. So I did, but I got to tell you that it wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be.
Now don't get me wrong, this is a decent flick. It had a good story, good acting. It was nice to see Matthew McConaughey in a role where he's not the lead guy in a chick flick or crummy action flick. He plays Mick Haller aka "The Lincoln Lawyer". He's a fast talkin, arrogant lawyer who essentially works out of the back of his car going from client to client, hence, "The Lincoln Lawyer". He takes a case where a rich kid in his late 20's is arrested and accused of rape and assault. Now its up to McConaughey to get him off. But is he actually innocent. Drama and suspense ensues. Like I said, a decent story and good acting make this a decent movie.
The problem with this movie is that there are plot twist that are unnecessary, and kind of irrelevant. The whole movie is leading up to what I think is going to be the huge revelation, and jaw-dropping moment that never really happened. What did happen was sort of a let down. To me at least. It was like the writer(s) couldn't think of a good plot twist so they threw some in just to throw some in. When it was over, I didn't walk away from the movie thinking "oh my God", that was amazing. The plot could have been more explained, better written and it had an OK ending but they could have done so much more with it. Kind of disappointing.
But overall it was OK. But could have been a lot more, and I was definitely expecting a lot more. Check this movie out if you want, but if you don't, your not really missing out.
