This movie was amazing! My vote for best picture. I didn't expect much but when I saw it, it blew me away.
Ben Affleck directed and starred in the declassified true story of abstracting 6 Americans out of 1979 Iran. He must find away to get in and get out. After a bunch a ideas, the option to get everyone out is by producing a fake movie. Affleck has to go into Iran, pretend to be a Canadian film crew and fly out. The reason it's called Argo is because that is the fake movie that they decide to produce. A simple plot that you would think would be a slow movie but this movie kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
The movie works for several different reasons. How Ben Affleck recreated 1979 was amazing. At then end of the movie, they show images and photos of the actual events and he was perfect at re-enacting the time period. Next, there are 3 actors who have minor roles but add a comic relief to the film. Alan Arkin and John Goodman are the director and make up artist of the fake movie and they kill it! Arkin is nominated for a Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Bryan Cranston also gives a powerful performance as Affleck's superior in the movie. And finally, the movie was written so well. The movie is based on actual events so it had to have precise writing. The movie keeps you going and there is never a dull moment. The last 30 minutes of the film are so intense, I think I started to sweat.
Argo is sooooooo good! How Affleck didn't get nominated for Best Director is beyond me. Watch this movie. It will knock your socks off! Yes indeed.
So this movie was awesome. It is an original story with a good plot and some amazing actors to boot. Not only is this a great movie, but this is one of the best time travel movies to date.
Joseph Gordon Levitt is a looper. Time travel hasn't been invented yet, but it will be in the future. When the mafia want someone taken care of, they send him back to the past where a looper is waiting to take care of it. It's clean and quick. Apparently, loopers have a life expectancy. The mob only wants loopers under their employment for a certain period of time. So when loopers have served their purpose, they let them live their life for 30 years until it's time to go. They themselves get sent back to be taken care of. But here's the crazy part of it all. When the loopers are old and get sent back to die, they are killed by their younger selves. That's how they know that their employment has ceased and they have 30 years. (mind is blown!)
The best part of this movie is how they address the whole time travel aspect of it. When Bruce Willis is talking to Joseph Gordon Levitt, he is obviously talking to himself. When he explains how his life is going to go, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to happen the same way. The younger version can make new choices and new events happen that change the future or present for the older version. (confused?) If the younger version makes new choices that didn't the same way the older version remembers it, he will all of a sudden, get a new memory. (mind blown again.....boom)
This is definitely one of those movies where you need to pay attention the entire time or you'll probably miss something. But if you pay attention, you are not let down. This movie was great. The casting in this movie was done perfectly. Joseph Gordon Levitt playing a younger Bruce Willis is sooooo cool. And the make up was great too. He looks just like him!
If your looking for an original movie with a good story and has some grade A actors in it, watch Looper!! It's worth it. And it definitely ranks up there as one of the best time travel movies of all time. Check it out, yes indeed.
So I've been thinking about this one for a while. I still don't know if I have it right. But here are what I think are the best time travel movies.
1: Back to the Future - There is no question about the #1 time travel movie. It's Back to the Future. And I don't need to explain why. Done.
2: Terminator 1 & 2 - When you think about it, the first 2 Terminators are great. A machine sent back in time to kill the mother of the leader of the resistance. And she has no idea. And when that doesn't work, send a machine to kill the leader himself. So you would then have to send another machine back in time to protect him. I mean, this was the first time travel action movie....and it was awesome.
3: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - "Ted? Who was Joan of Arc?" - "Noah's Wife?"----- " If you're us, what number are we thinking of?" - "69 dudes!".
Classic! 2 high school students that have t go back in time in a phone booth to get historical figures for their history project? Excellent!
4: Looper - I only saw this recently, but it is a great time travel movie. What's cool about this one, is that when Joseph Gordon Levitt is talking with his future self, Bruce Willis, he discovers that if he decides to take a new path than what the future version of himself has taken in the past, he literally creates a new memory for the future version of himself. Wait, what? Yeah! And that's why it's on the list.
5: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Now I know that most people wouldn't think to put this movie on their list for best time travel movies, but it's actually a really intricate movie when it comes to traveling through time. The last 40 minutes or so are done so well! Harry and Hermione have to go through and help the past versions of themselves get through what they already went through. This movie received 4 stars for a reason.

So there they are. Like I said, I'm still not sure about this list because there is some good movies about time travel and it's hard to put them in an order. The only thing I know for sure is the one I have at the #1 spot. No question. When I took a poll of my friends, every single one came back with Back to the Future. So besides that, if anybody has any recommendations for this list, leave a comment. And I hope to see some good time travel movies in the future....or the past......yes indeed!
A lot of people gave this movie some flack. But I absolutely loved it. I was hysterically laughing practically the entire time. I watched so many times and it's just as funny every time I watch it.
So the story is 4 guys who put together a neighborhood watch because someone in there town got killed. So Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade go out and prowl the neighborhood to make sure everything is cool. Now there is a sci-fi aspect to it. The town does get invaded by aliens. As long as you can get past that, then the movie is great. If you relish on the fact that there are aliens in this movie then your not going to like it. But the alien factor is done really well. it's kind of like Predator, Alien and They Live all rolled into one with some Rated R comedy. This is a hilarious movie. There are some great Vince Vaughn moments. It's pretty much a classic Vince Vaughn movie. Just some great lines! And Jonah Hill was good too. I loved every second of it.
So if your looking for a fun movie that will have you laughing, this is it. As long as you keep an open mind with the sci-fi factor, it's great. No lie. Watch this movie! Yes indeed.
Crude. Explicit. Vulgar. Awesome! I loved this movie! It was awesome. It's an original story about a kids teddy bear who comes to life and then stays alive as the kid grows up. They drink, they smoke, and deny growing up. But they are best friends.
May I just say, I love the fact that a talking teddy bear is cursing and throwing back beers. This movie is Rated R but its even better Unrated. There's not much to say about this movie. The basic plot is a 35 year old who has never really grown up and his girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) is getting sick of it. She wants his friend, Ted, to do his own thing because he thinks he's holding John (Mark Wahlberg) back. So what happens next is comedy genius. Girls, parties, Flash Gordon, thunder buddies, a fight scene with a duck, a creepy guy, sex, Norah Jones, drugs, karaoke.......there's almost too much to talk about without giving stuff away.
Ted is voiced by Seth MacFarlane who also wrote and directed it. He basically made a movie that is awesome on all counts. It's absolutely hilarious! Watch this movie. But be advised that it is very vulgar, but soooo good! Yes indeed.
So i really enjoyed this movie. This is an brand new re-telling of the story of Spider Man. It doesn't recognize that the other movies existed. Kind of like what Christopher Nolan did with the Dark Knight movies. I thought that this movie was better than the original Spider Man movies.
Get rid of Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst and cheesy villains. Replace them with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and.....well....a cheesy villain. But you still get a better movie. It's a better story. It doesn't fast forward through the character of Peter Parker's life in 30 minutes. He actually stays in high school throughout the entire movie. It also incorporates how he came to live with Uncle Ben and Aunt May. The neat thing that they did with the story is take away his ability to make webs. Instead he uses this type of machinery on his wrists. His abilities are strength, speed, and heightened senses. Mary Jane also doesn't exist yet. Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacy. The daughter of the Police Chief. And she's a much better actor than Kirsten Dunst. It's a better choice all around. Andrew Garfield is a much better choice for Pater Parker. Tobey's interpretation was good but Andrew's was better. Peter Parker is a less than ordinary guy who gets extra-ordinary abilities. So you want an actor like Andrew Garfield because he played the character with a sense of timidness. And there is also no awkward Peter Parker, Harry Osbourne friendship. No offense to James Franco but that whole relationship was just weird. Like I said, these are better choices all around.
The Amazing Spider-Man is a fresh new look at the comic series. Some might say that this movie was not needed but I think that it is much better than the others. This movies seems less comic booky while still incorporating the comic. Hopefully that makes sense. It's a refreshing take on the series and I'm excited for more to come. Yes indeed.
